Pamela, Customer Onboarding Advisor

About you

I’m Brazilian and am originally from Franca, near Sao Paulo in Brazil. In 2017 I moved to London to learn English and work in the events industry. In 2019 I moved up to Edinburgh, to study Business Management at Napier University. I am a keen gym goer and my favourite movies are The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. My inspiration is Michelle Obama, and my favourite quote of hers that I try to live by is: “You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.”

Why did you choose to work at TravelNest?

I discovered TravelNest when I was looking for a company in the travel industry that shared the same values as me. Since my very first interview, TravelNest have appreciated my ideas and mindset, welcoming me onboard as the person I am. The company has an entrepreneurial mindset,  and constantly strives to develop the team.

What is your impression  of TravelNest so far?

Like any new job there was a lot to learn initially in my role!  But I’ve learned so much, and have been able to develop lots of new skills along the way. I’m really enjoying my experience so far and looking forward to growing as TravelNest continues to grow as a company.

What is your role and what do you get involved with day-to-day?

I’m a Customer Onboarding Advisor, so my role is about welcoming new customers to TravelNest and getting them live on our platform! My main tasks involve speaking to brand new customers, onboarding them, helping them understand and maximise their use of our vacation rentals software platform, and assisting them with any enquiries. I also get involved in researching the competitor landscape, producing analysis and data to help us improve our onboarding approach.

Jamie, Senior Software Engineer

About you

Outside of work I try to stay active by going to the gym, practising yoga and playing 7-a-side football. I like to watch television dramas, read fiction and play video games in my downtime. Music has also always been a big part of my life. I sang in choirs for most of my youth, which is where I met my partner who is a professional singer. I occasionally play the piano for leisure; I was taking lessons until the pandemic stopped that, though I'm looking to get back to it!

Why did you choose to work at TravelNest?

My previous jobs were in larger enterprise companies, and TravelNest represented an opportunity to work for a smaller, more modern and faster-paced company on an upward trajectory. I also wanted to work with more experienced engineers to improve my knowledge.

What is your role and what do you get involved in day-to-day?

I'm a senior software engineer in the company, which involves designing and building the software solutions we use to solve our customers' problems. I'm also involved in leading project teams as we learn what it is we need to build, and co-ordinate executing on our plans. My day-to-day can be quite varied, but usually it's meeting with our members of our product organisation or engineering team to make decisions, and heads-down time to write code.

What do you like best about working at TravelNest?

What I've always enjoyed about TravelNest is the responsibility to work on important new features of our product, and the direct influence that I can have on the finished result. I enjoy the social interaction with my colleagues, and the growth potential our business has excites me.

Afroditi, Customer Operations Advisor

About you

My name is Afroditi and I am from the beautiful island of Crete in Greece.

Where I’m from, tourism is the main economic driver, so working in the travel industry has always been an ambition of mine. I am particularly interested in understanding more about guest needs and preferences when it comes to where they stay - my ultimate career goal is to design unique hotel interiors and holiday apartments! Outside of work, you'll find me sketching interiors, playing video games and watching sci-fi and horror movies and TV series. I love the original 1931 Dracula film and enjoyed seeing Dune at the cinema.

Why did you choose to work at TravelNest?

I had been working in the customer service field for several years, and really wanted to move into a role in the travel sector. I absolutely love to travel and visit new places, so why not mix both! TravelNest has an excellent working environment. It allows me to work from home and has been a game changer for me in terms of my professional development. Here I’ve been challenged to step up, grow professionally and really expand my knowledge and skills.

What is your role at TravelNest and what do you get involved with day-to-day?

My role at TravelNest is Customer Operations Advisor. My top priority is looking after our property owners and providing them with the best possible customer service. My role is really varied, and I get the chance to work on lots of different improvement projects across different teams. My day-to-day tasks include acting as a bridge between our guest bookings team and the property owners team, responding to guest reviews, carrying out account optimizations to improve the performance of properties on the booking sites and generally troubleshooting any issues our property owners have to ensure they get maximum value from using TravelNest.

What do you like best about working at TravelNest?

The team spirit! Being able to work alongside some of the best colleagues I have ever worked with is what I love best, a day at TravelNest is never boring or dull! Even though we are working remotely I always feel a strong sense of team spirit. As well as sharing our skills, everyone here looks after one another.

First up, our People Team will review your application. If we’d like to get to know you a bit more, we’ll reach to set up an initial screening call. We’re working remotely at the moment so this will be carried out via phone. We’ll have an informal chat about you, your aspirations and experience, and also talk more about the role you’ve applied for and TravelNest’s culture and values. It’s your chance to ask questions too, so don’t be worried about asking us anything at all!

Although this will vary depending on the role you’ve applied for at TravelNest, you can expect an initial screening call with our People Team, followed by a culture interview and technical interview. The final stage is a session where you’ll meet with our senior leadership team. For some roles in our data and engineering teams we may also include a technical task – this will give you a feel for the type of work you’d be doing here. 

Again, this depends on the position you’ve applied for, but you’ll definitely chat to our People Team, plus the manager(s) who are hiring for the role. At your final stage interview, you’ll also get a chance to meet our leadership team. We’ll keep you informed at every stage so you know what to expect. We’re a friendly bunch so there’s no need to feel nervous – just be yourself!
