Vrbo is a vacation rental booking platform which stands for Vacation Rentals by Owner. The channel offers over 2 million listings in 190 countries, making it one of the largest sites of its kind and very popular amongst hosts. Vrbo advertise self-contained properties, no short-term rental of rooms only, making it different from other booking sites such as Airbnb. The brand recently celebrated 25 years of operation. Within these 25 years a lot has changed, which often sparks confusion and questions. We’ve summed up what you need to know about our partner channel!
Is Vrbo the same as HomeAway?
In 2020, HomeAway and VRBO merged and rebranded as one single website, Vrbo. Previously, they were two separate vacation rental booking sites founded in the USA. HomeAway acquired VRBO in 2006, and then both sites were later acquired by The Expedia Group in 2015. Find out more about the full history of the booking platform (as well as how to pronounce it!). Vrbo is still owned by Expedia today. The Travelnest partnership with The Expedia Group gives holiday rental owners access to advertise on 23 top booking channels, including Hotels.com and Arbitel.
HomeAway originally charged a subscription fee model, but when acquired by Expedia this changed to a performance-based model. Similar to Travelnest, it is free to sign up and commission fees apply to bookings. With the Travelnest channel manager software, you can become a Vrbo host and create a Vrbo owner login. We build the listing for you, and you can manage this login as well as 30 others from one account.. As well as Vrbo and the Expedia Group channels, you can advertise on Airbnb and Booking.com with Travelnest.
