To help get you into the Christmas spirit, we've put together our top five favourite homes featured in classic Christmas movies. How many of these incredible homes do you recognise?! Which one would you love to stay in this Christmas?

1. Rosehill Cottage, The Holiday

This picture perfect cottage featured in Christmas rom-com The Holiday, starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. Although Rosehill Cottage was built for the movie, it was inspired by many quintessential English country cottages, including Honeysuckle Cottage in Surrey. With a sprinkling of snow on the roof, a traditional cottage garden and chintzy interior, Rosehill Cottage is a charming location for this Christmas classic movie about finding love.

2. The McCallister's, Home Alone

No list of homes featured in Christmas movies would be complete without including the McCallister’s sprawling family home in Home Alone. In the film, eight year old Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, defends his home from bumbling burglars Harry and Marv. The house is located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka. Although Home Alone is now over 30 years old, the house remains as one the most iconic movie locations. In 2021, fans got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to stay in the house for one, very special night, available through Airbnb

3. Scrooge's House, A Christmas Carol

The BBC’s 2019 miniseries A Christmas Carol starred Guy Pearce as penny-pinching miser Ebeneezer Scrooge. His dark and gloomy mansion where he was visited by the ghosts of Christmas past is none other than Rainham Hall, a stunning Grade II listed Georgian house, now owned by The National Trust. As well as providing the backdrop for many snowy scenes in the series, the interior of Rainham Hall also featured as Scrooge’s parlour. We certainly think Rainham Hall is one of the most elegant homes to be featured in a Christmas movie! Find out more about Rainham Hall.

4. Walter Hobbs' Apartment, Elf

Elf is a classic Christmas movie that is enjoyed year after year. In the film, Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell, travels to New York in search of his real father. What he finds is Walter Hobbs, a cynical businessman who learns some important life lessons from Buddy. Walter’s home is a famous Manhattan skyscraper – 55 Central Park West on the Upper East Side. Eagle-eyed film fans will also recognise this beautiful Art Deco building from the 1984 film Ghostbusters. It was the home of the first ever Ghostbuster’s customer, Dana Barrett, played by Sigourney Weaver, where demons lived in her freezer!

5. St Luke's Mews, Love Actually

This quaint pink house in St Luke’s Mews, London provided the backdrop for one of Love Actually’s best scenes. Located in the heart of Notting Hall, it’s where Mark confesses his love for Juliet using handwritten notes to a soundtrack of Silent Night. The street is undoubtedly one of the most attractive cobbled mews streets in London, with homes valued at over £2,500,000. As Christmas movie homes go, this has got to be one of the prettiest!
